Meet your therapist
Clay Klaus-Wade
(he/they)
I'm a second-year student in the University of Pennsylvania's master's program in Mental Health Counseling. My approach to therapy and to understanding others is grounded in psychodynamic, culturally responsive, and feminist theories. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming practitioner and a proud member of the queer community.
I believe that we've each arrived at this moment living a life shaped by what's happened to us and around us, and by how we've come to survive and understand it. We are, unavoidably and importantly, a product of our entire lived experience, whether we're consciously aware of it or not. I see my role as co-creating a space that's supportive and affirming, where we can explore your past, thoughts, feelings, fears, and experiences without stigma or judgment. Together we'll connect the dots, sit with complexity and strong, sometimes difficult emotions, and work toward developing a deeper understanding of yourself and your life.
I bring warmth, compassion, and humor (when appropriate and appreciated) to our work together. I'm drawn to working with people who are contending with anxiety and depression, trauma, grief and loss, existential concerns, identity development, relationship and attachment challenges, and the day-to-day challenges that life hands us. I'm also particularly interested in working with folks living with ADHD, OCD, and ASD.
