What is Somatic therapy?
Somatic therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes the connection between the mind and body, recognizing the impact of physical sensations, movements, and experiences on one's emotional well-being.
These types of therapies take an alternative approach than traditional therapies by working through the body to heal emotional wounds and manage stress. Through various techniques such as movement, breathwork, and body awareness, somatic therapy aims to address and release stored tension and trauma, promoting holistic healing and improved mental health.
The types of somatic therapies and techniques we offer is EMDR, Polyvagal, and EFT (tapping).
EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy offers a unique and transformative experience by integrating bilateral stimulation, typically through guided eye movements or tapping, to process distressing memories.
During a session, individuals may revisit distressing memories while simultaneously engaging in rhythmic movements, fostering the reprocessing of traumatic experiences.
Clients often report a sense of relief, increased emotional resilience, and a reevaluation of negative beliefs as they undergo this innovative and evidence-based therapeutic approach.
Polyvagal Techniques
Polyvagal therapy helps people feel better emotionally by working with their body's natural responses to stress. In therapy, individuals learn about their body's reactions and practice techniques to manage stress and trauma.
By gaining a better understanding of their nervous system and using simple exercises, clients can build a stronger sense of safety and connection in their everyday experiences.
By focusing on the body's cues and practicing self-regulation, Polyvagal therapy empowers individuals to navigate challenging situations with increased resilience and a greater sense of well-being.
EFT (Tapping)
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a unique and simple approach to managing emotions. Often referred to as Tapping, individuals gently tap on specific acupuncture points on their body while focusing on their emotional challenges.
This tapping helps release energy blockages and reduces the intensity of negative emotions, providing a sense of relief. Many people find EFT to be a calming and empowering experience, allowing them to address emotional issues and promote a greater sense of well-being.
As individuals continue to practice EFT, they often report experiencing a renewed sense of emotional balance.
